Art Curator Paris Kapralos, in collaboration with visual artists from Greece and abroad, invites you to visit the exhibition “Ink on Paper” and to honour us with your presence at the opening on Thursday 19 March, 19:00 – 22:00

The exhibition takes place physically in Athens at Chili Art Gallery (13–15 Dimofontos St., Thissio, Athens) and simultaneously online, in collaboration with ARTgrID.

Visitors will see works of printmaking, calligraphy, collage and painting with ink, presenting a wide variety of stylistic and technical approaches that make a visit to the exhibition a distinctive experience.

Among other things, the curatorial text notes: “In his curatorial note, Mr Kapralos writes among other things: “Ink – or ‘the ink’ as we commonly refer to it today – is a coloured liquid substance used in writing, printing and painting. The word derives from the ancient Greek term ‘melas’ (= black), because the first colour used was black. If we say that ‘human history has been written with ink’, most people will think of books. Much earlier, however, human memory was painted on the walls of caves with ink-like pigments, long before the concept of writing itself was invented. One hundred thousand years ago, humans first painted and only later gradually wrote down what had to be preserved. From the fifteenth century, when paper became widely available in Europe, artists adopted it, and the histories of paper and ink became intertwined in a bouquet of artistic practices.

In our time, visual artists produce a wide range of experiments depending on their individual points of departure, creating works of remarkable sensitivity, often entirely unexpected, surprising in their approaches. The international tendency for water-soluble ink – coloured or black – to be used by painters as an alternative to more traditional pigments, together with the exceptional handmade and industrial papers available to printmakers and painters from across the world, has made the artistic approaches of ink on paper one of the most renewed and compelling fields in contemporary visual art.”

The exhibition features works by the visual artists: Maria Genitsariou, Dimitris Galanakis, Olga Barmazi, Nikolas Fotiadis, Yana Liubarska, Ioannis Vlachos, Pepi Karagiannaki, Nikos Kardampikis, Chrysa Papandrikou, Panagiotis Plevritis, Matina Eptaimerou, Chariton Papadopoulos, Eleni Gourgouli, Ioannis Palamas, Theodora Papachristou.

A bilingual (Greek and English) commemorative catalogue-book has been published for the exhibition and is available free of charge to all visitors.

Opening hours / days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 11.00 – 18.00, Thursday 12.00 – 19.00, Saturday 11.00 – 15.00. Monday and Sunday closed.

The exhibition will run from Thursday 19 to Saturday 28 March 2026.

About the “Ink on Paper” initiative
The initiative “Ink on Paper” is a platform of artistic activities founded in 2019 by Art Curator Paris Kapralos, aiming to highlight visual artists who use ink and paper as their primary means of expression. Since 2024 the initiative has established a community of artists creating works of painting, drawing, printmaking and other ink-related techniques such as watercolour, Chinese ink, calligraphy and more, alongside its many other activities.

Within this framework, workshops, masterclasses and live demonstrations are organised. The initiative maintains an official website supported by ARTgrID, functioning both as a repository of its activities and as a virtual space presenting its official community. The “Ink on Paper” community also maintains an active presence on social media, with an official Facebook page where news, announcements and educational articles are published.
