Ink On Paper 11

Welcome to the online edition of the exhibition “Ink on Paper 11” — an exhibition that took place in person at Alma Mater Art Space from Friday, October 3 to Sunday, October 12, 2025. Curated by art curator Paris Kapralos, in collaboration with visual artists who use ink as their primary expressive medium, this was the 11th installment of the namesake series. The online edition of the exhibition will remain available until November 12, 2025.

In the curatorial note, Mr. Kapralos writes:
“Ink — or ‘the ink’ as we commonly refer to it today — is a colored liquid substance used in writing, typography, and painting. It comes from the ancient Greek word ‘melas’ (=black), as the first color used was black. If we write ‘Human history has been written in ink,’ most people will think of books. But much earlier, human memory was painted on cave walls with ink, long before the concept of writing was invented. A hundred thousand years ago, people first painted, and only later began to write down what needed to be preserved. Since the 15th century, when paper became widely available in Europe, artists adopted it, and the histories of paper and ink merged into a bouquet of arts.

Today, visual artists produce with immense stylistic diversity and a variety of experimentations based on their unique points of origin — creating works of exceptional sensitivity, often entirely unexpected, and remarkable in their approach. The global trend of using water-soluble ink — either colored or black — as an alternative to traditional paints, along with the availability of outstanding handmade and industrial papers from around the world for printmakers and painters alike, makes the art of ink on paper one of the most revitalized and exciting approaches in contemporary visual art.”

Participating visual artists:
Andreas Sinopoulos, Olga Barmazi, Giorgos Valvis, Kony Zervou, Alexios Demelis, Chryssa Tsovili, Sotiris Dandanas, Dimitris Galanakis, Chryssa Teliou, Ioannis Vlachos, Pepi Karagiannaki, Mary Poulakou, Panagiota Outsiou

Ink On Paper Initiative

The “Ink on Paper” initiative is an action platform founded in 2019 by art curator Paris Kapralos, with the aim of promoting visual artists who use ink and paper as their primary means of expression. Since 2024, the initiative has established a community of artists creating works in painting, drawing, printmaking, and other ink-related techniques such as watercolor, Chinese ink, calligraphy, among others—alongside many other activities. These include workshops, masterclasses, and live demonstrations. The initiative maintains an official website supported by ARTgrID, which serves as a repository of its activities and a virtual showcase for its official artist community. The “Ink on Paper” community is also active on social media, with an official Facebook page where news, announcements, educational content, and other articles are regularly published. Detailed information is available on the initiative’s website HERE.
