Eva Anastasopoulou is a visual artist with photography as her primary medium of expression. She is a graduate of the School of Applied Arts and Culture at the University of Western Attica and has worked professionally in Interior Design. She has also served as a lecturer at the Greek Organization for the Certification of Professional Qualifications (EOPPEP) in the Decoration department and has delved into photography through private studies. As a member of the artist group U.B.U.GR (used but useful), which focuses on art from recycled materials (art from scrap), she has showcased her artistic work in exhibitions in Athens and Paris. Over the past ten years, she has been captivated by artistic photography with a visual dimension, which she now focuses on. She has been collaborating with ARC – Art Revisited Collective since September 2024.

STATEMENT

My works are photographs, real images, findings, details, and close-ups of real objects, with minimal processing (editing) using a filter for texture. (See video “before and after”) The reality around me fulfills me as an artist, and I am fascinated by discovering such visual images that surpass even my own imagination.

Theoretical Approach

Eva Anastopoulou’s photographic work constitutes a multidimensional artistic experience that blends elements from various art movements and trends, aiming to provoke the viewer to reflect on the notions of truth and the visible. Her images, with minimal digital processing, highlight everyday details that often go unnoticed and transform them into works with a strong painterly and artistic presence.

The combination of minimalist depiction with powerful iconographic force is a central element in her work. The use of digital technology is not merely for aesthetic formation but is directly tied to the search for deeper meanings. Through the selective use of cropping that emphasise texture, her photographs exude an internal tension, while simultaneously referencing Abstract Expressionism and Digital Expressionism—an emerging movement that leverages the potential of digital art to create works charged with emotional intensity and artistic depth.

At the same time, her work incorporates realistic elements, linking her artistic approach to the Realism movement, where simple forms and everyday objects are portrayed with a sense of naturalness. This concept of “everydayness” recurs throughout her work, such as in the depiction of the figure within a tube, underscoring the connection with reality. However, her image processing transports the viewer to a more abstract and symbolic world, where forms and objects acquire new meanings and dimensions.

Anastopoulou’s postmodern approach challenges the traditional relationship between truth and appearance, allowing for a new reading of her photographs through the aesthetic synthesis of realism with abstract symbolism. Her work prompts the viewer to traverse the boundaries of the tangible and the abstract, inviting reflection on the multiple dimensions of reality and representation.

In conclusion, Eva Anastopoulou’s work stands at the intersection of Realism and Digital Expressionism, forming a dialogue between conventional visual forms and new digital tools. This creates images that combine the concrete with the abstract, highlighting the tension between different levels of reality.
