Poly Kanistra was born in Piraeus, studied at the Department of Graphic Arts of the Doxiadis School from 1971 to 1974, with sculptors Yannis Parmakelis and George Georgiadis and painters Maria Spentza, Takis Katsoulidis, Dimitris Mytaras, and Petros Zouboulakis. She is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece. She is involved in painting, sculpture, jewelry, has illustrated books, and created posters. She has shown her work in 11 solo exhibitions in Greece and Germany. She has participated in 60 group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. She was awarded in 2019 at the NAIVA BRATISLAVA, Grand Prix, International Naive Art Exhibition. She was honored with a commendation in the Panhellenic Poster Competition of the European Communities Committee.
