Yiannis Tyrovolas was born in Athens in 1959. He studied chemistry in London (QMC) and pursued postgraduate studies in Southampton (MSc) and Newcastle upon Tyne (PhD). He works for a water treatment company. He has been involved in photography since the late 1990s and in poetry since the mid-2000s. In photography, his interest focuses on themes of Industrial Archaeology and abstract artistic compositions – traces from urban space (Urban traces). He has photographed approximately 200 abandoned industries from all over Greece and selects his subjects often with social and political references and correlations. He has presented his work in 4 solo and 5 group exhibitions in Greece. He contributes poetry and photography to the magazine Mandragoras. His works are found in the Industrial Museum of Ermoupolis, the Conference Center of Adamantas in Milos, and in the GSEE book of Ermoupolis, Syros 2018.
