Statement

My artworks are photographic psychographs, with personal and societal anchors. In my paintings, I prefer using acrylics in combination with a variety of materials, with a sculptural pursuit aimed at highlighting textures and forms. This process holds a psychoanalytical character for me. It’s a kind of ritual, through which internal aspects of myself surface, sometimes unknown even to me, with a tendency towards the imaginative.

CRITICAL APPROACH

The artworks of  Yiota Tzotzoli are characterized by forms with intense action and expressiveness, with movement and plasticity, which can place her within the realm of abstract expressionism as it is conceived today. Exploring further into form and movement, the painter presents works with dual intermediation: the conceptual content is embodied through a formal process and transcribed onto paper solely as a representation of motion or spatial arrangement. Through improvisation and the utilization of a free form, cohesive relationships are explored and traversed. Her formalization is equally inscribed in space and time. On a conceptual level, the works convey emotions and initiate a dialogue with the viewer, serving as a vehicle for expressing personal feelings and depicting states of the mind and soul. Existential matters permeate the work of Giota Tzotzoli.
