STATEMENT

With my camera, I seek ways of expression, playing with colors, chasing light, and exploring myself. It’s the light that dances with the sky and clouds, with trees and people. The light that paints shadows and transforms the gaze, the soul, and the mind, stirring up memories and unearthing childhood experiences. Observing the world around me with a different perspective, wandering through the city and nature, I started capturing with my lens those unique moments that pass and never return. Thus began my special relationship with the environment, which I perceive as a theatrical stage where I simultaneously act as a director, actor, and spectator. Roles change within fractions of a second, leading me down paths of exploration and artistic expression.

Through this relationship, as I attempt to externalize emotions, memories, and thoughts, I engage in a constant dialogue with the space around me, which takes on different forms and dimensions through my photographic lens, serving as a means to depict inner exploration. Working mainly with directed photography in recent years, my works dare to seek three-dimensional forms, integrate into the space, and acquire substance. Light plays with diverse objects, giving them energy, life, and transforming them into sculptures.

I am captivated by the timeless interaction between various forms of art, and I am in the process of exploring the evolution of this unique connection. Drawing influences from 20th-century art movements, with primary references to surrealism and constructivism, I have been experimenting with mixed techniques in recent months, combining digital photography with painting. I use acrylic paints, pastels, and even charcoal, creating on top of my prints and photographing the final artwork. The quest for different forms of expression also includes experimenting with alternative photographic presentation techniques, such as using gum bichromate with iconographic colors and exposing it to sunlight. This technique, which had applications in the 19th century, allows for experimentation by combining the freedom of painting with photographic representation. And the search never stops…

THE STATE OF THINGS

“Daylight or the faint light of night,
is a divine game with infinite paths.”
– Giorgos Grammatikakis, Conversations with Light, 2009

Light plays… With the sky and the clouds… With the trees… with people…
And so does the gaze… With the soul and the mind… with memories… with childhood experiences…
And then the lens captures a moment… An emotion… A thought…
A truth or a lie…
Everyone seeks their own path…

THE RED LINE OR IDENTITY

“A series of self-portraits, born out of the need for inner expression. An old piece of furniture crafted with my grandfather’s passion. Personal belongings, little treasures, awaken from oblivion and attempt to tell their own stories. Three generations have left their mark in the same space. A piece of jewelry, a ribbon, a hat, a scarf, my grandfather’s old notebook with its calligraphic letters, the family’s music notebooks. With them come sounds, tastes, and scents. Little cherished moments from my childhood emerge in my mind.”
