Anna Gouvianaki was born and raised in Athens. She studied Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens and continued with postgraduate studies at the Sorbonne in Paris. She lived and worked in Brussels, where photography initially served as a tool for observation and documentation within her architectural practice. For the past fifteen years, it has been her primary means of personal expression. In her photographic work, she explores the relationship between the body, place, memory and space, focusing on the transformation of form and the ambiguous relationship between what we see and what we recognize. Her architectural perspective converges with photography in an ongoing exploration of the relationships between form, matter and the experience of space. She has attended seminars on photographic technique, the history of photography and studio photography. Her work has been presented in Greece and abroad.
