ARTgrID, in collaboration with Art Curator Paris Kapralos and on the occasion of World Environment Day (June 5), presents the 4th exhibition of its “New Normal” series, titled “The Silence of Nature”. The physical exhibition will be hosted at Chili Art Gallery  (Acropolis Area) in Athens, Greece. from June 5 to 14, 2025, and simultaneously online via our platform for a duration of one month.

Eligibitlity.  The exhibition welcomes submissions of paintings, sculptures, prints, photography, digital art, collage, textile/fiber art, and video art from visual artists residing in Europe. Artists may approach the subject in any way they deem appropriate.

Conceptual Framework. What does it mean to grow up surrounded by nature? For a teenager in the 1990s, it meant freedom, play, and a fearless connection with nature. For a child today, the answer is different: it means heatwaves imposing restrictions, forests turned to ash, beaches filled with plastic, jellyfish, and invasive marine species driven to the sea by violent climate change. “Resilience” is no longer a theory, but a daily condition. The innocence we once knew is no longer a given. Children growing up in 2025 shape their experiences in an environment that is no longer taken for granted, but fragile and unstable. Climate is not just a weather report—it is often a matter of survival even for European countries. World Environment Day is not just a date on the calendar, but a mirror reflecting the transformations of our world—and with it, childhood. If this day matters, it is because it asks us to reflect on the future we offer our children—not with guilt, but with responsibility. To protect what remains and rebuild what was lost. Because nature is no longer a certainty; and if we want it to exist tomorrow, we must act today. Within this context, the role of the visual artist is not merely to depict reality, but to give voice to its silence, awaken collective consciousness, and spark dialogue where silence or loss prevails. Today, art is called upon to serve as an act of memory, responsibility, and inspire action.

About the “New Normal” Exhibition Series. The “New Normal” exhibition series, organized by ARTgrID and curated by Paris Kapralos, is a multi-year visual arts project exploring the impacts of contemporary crises—such as the pandemic, climate change, and social upheavals—on human experience. Initiated in 2021 with a focus on the effects of the pandemic, each exhibition acts as a standalone chapter in a collective dialogue, inviting artists to portray, interpret, and reflect on the changing conditions of our time.
