Conceptual framework. The horizon is one of the most enduring motifs in the history of painting, functioning as a point of reference between the visible and the imagined. The Limit of the horizon never remains fixed. It shifts according to the observer’s position, atmospheric conditions and time.

Clarity of atmosphere and intensity of light can render the horizon sharply defined or almost immaterial, especially in seascapes where sky and water tend to merge. The boundary becomes a transitional zone in which distinctions between above and below, near and far, are questioned.

At the same time, on a social level, the concept of the boundary is constantly redefined. Population movements, tourism and the continuous flow of images and information reshape our perception of space and distance. The horizon evolves from a simple geographical reference into a symbol of expectation, escape or limitation.

Watercolor, with its ability to render subtle tonal transitions, is particularly suited to approaching this unstable boundary, where the image balances between description and abstraction.
