Initiative for the promotion of contemporary watercolor
The Initiative of events, actions, and activities Color in the water — in Greek “Χρώμα σε Νερό” — for the promotion and showcasing of works and artists whose main medium of expression is watercolor. The main name of the initiative is in English because it is an international initiative with diverse activities in other countries that do not necessarily speak Greek. It was created in 2019 by the Art Curator Paris Kapralos (who has for many years been a collaborating organizer with the International Watercolor Society – IWS, a member of jury committees in watercolor biennales, etc.) and includes painters who focus on the mediums that make up contemporary watercolor, such as watercolor, water-soluble inks, watercolor pencils, powders, natural water-soluble pigments, as well as alternative media — e.g., tea, coffee. At the same time, workshops, masterclasses, and live demos are organized, along with national delegations to international events. The community has a particularly active official Facebook page titled “Color in the water“, and as of March 2025, the initiative will launch this official website with the support of ARTgrID.
As part of the ongoing promotion of quality art by the Color in the Water initiative, this website also serves as a hub for showcasing to the art-loving public notable artists who live and work in Greece, along with their work. In a continuous online exhibition, selected representative works of artists who are members of the community are presented, while we also inform you about selected activities of theirs that align with our vision for the broader dissemination of Art. The page is enriched with educational and informational articles on materials, techniques, new products, international trends, topics in art history and theory directly related to the evolution of watercolor, international calls for interest, and related content.
