Dia Manesi, The Black Sheep, series “Forced Heirship”, plexiglas surface, oil, 50x50x3 cm, 2025

The figure of the black sheep appears like a comic strip frame: a figure staring with wide, exaggerated eyes, as if startled by its own presence within the frame. The expression is not only fear; it is the awareness of standing out – of being watched even when no one speaks. The black sheep thus becomes a symbol of the Forced Heirship of difference: of one who does not easily fit the flock, but cannot abandon it either. The exaggerated line, shadowy volume, almost caricature-like intensity in the gaze, convey the anxiety of identity: the being that knows it is different, but has not yet understood whether this is a stigma or a strength. Within the context of the exhibition, the work functions as a mirror of self-irony and recognition.
