Dimitris Galanakis is a visual artist whose main means of expression are painting and drawing using the stippling technique. He was born in Athens in 1961 and has been active in the Fine Arts since 1981, under the guidance of several other visual artists. With their support, and through consistent effort and meticulous study, he acquired technical skill and shaped his personal style through multiple influences.

A significant influence on his art came from his work as a four-colour retoucher at ADAM Publications, where he collaborated with prominent painters. Throughout his career, he has worked with a variety of media, including but not limited to watercolour, oil painting and pencil. In recent years he has focused on stippling, which has become a distinctive feature of his work.

He has presented his work in two solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions, and his works are held in private collections. Dimitris Galanakis has been collaborating with the visual artists’ collective ARC – Art Revisited Collective since May 2023.

The story behind the work
Flowing Magnolia in Nagoya: The magnolia flows along the trunk of time, carrying with it the scent of transience. Each blossom is a breath of life, born and extinguished within the same gaze. In Japanese aesthetics, beauty resides in change. This is captured in the fluid paths of the ink and the droplets that seem to breathe. For the viewer, the work speaks of the moment, of the delicate balance between life and decay. The Japanese inks, with their transparency and unpredictable flow, offered me the opportunity to express the passage of time through the movement of the colour itself.
