Niki Roubani is a visual artist and activist in the Women’s Movement, President of the Greek Network of Women of Europe. She studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts and at the Central School of Art and Design in London (BA Honours and Diploma, 1978). In 1975, while studying in England, she began her involvement in Human Rights issues, serving as Secretary General of the student association Ergasia. From 1986 to 2020, she entered the field of public education as a Visual Arts teacher. In this role, she found an alternative path to teaching about Human Rights, equality, and violence prevention through Art. Since 1997, she has been collaborating with international organizations and official bodies as the elected president of the board of the Greek Network of Women of Europe, focusing on equality, prevention and combat of violence and trafficking – the GNWE runs a SOS line and shelter for abused women. She has organized performances and held 18 solo exhibitions in Greece, the USA, Cyprus, and Belgium, and has participated in numerous group shows in Greece, the UK, Canada, and the Netherlands. She is a member of the Union of Visual Arts Teachers – her publications appear in 28 issues of the journal “Visual Education,” the book “Immigrants in Greece” by Ellinika Grammata, and educational material from the Ministry of Interior’s Training Institute and in the manual/DVD “Bridges of Friendship,” “Lesvos–Dikili” (2005), training for Conflict Management.
