Sunday, October 6, 2024 – The community of the initiative Ink On Paper, which highlights visual artists whose primary media of expression are ink and paper, announces the participation of Heo Tsop.

Giorgos Tsopanos (Heo Tsop) lives and works in Athens. He is a self-taught painter/illustrator and is also involved in the sound of noise music. He creates his drawings primarily using pen and Indian ink. His black-and-white illustrations depict a macabre universe filled with symbolism and mysticism, often featuring anthropomorphic animal figures. He has participated in two group exhibitions held at Metamatic Taf (“Bijoux de Kant: Recording Actions”, 2011 & “Muted Distortions”, 2012). In 2012, his first solo exhibition titled “Interracial Consumers” took place at Junk Records in Athens. His second solo show, “Intonarumori: The Noise Of Art,” was held in January 2013 at the KET (Center for Television Control). The exhibition included drawings and handmade noise machines inspired by composers, bands, references, and themes from the noise and experimental music scene.

He has also completed numerous illustration projects and publications in collaboration with author Irini Sourgiadaki (*The Boy with the Magic Fingers*, Ellinoekdotiki 2010; *post.*, Thines Publishing 2013; *Status: Cancelled For Your Eyes Only*, Amsel Verlag Zürich, 2015). In 2019, he participated as the illustrator in the multimedia exhibition “Mortality Check” at Titanikas Gallery in Vilnius, Lithuania, curated by Mary Marinopoulou.

In his artistic statement, he notes about his work: “I welcome the darkness where so many eyes shine. Darkness is my cultural blood.
