Art Curator Paris Kapralos, in collaboration with watercolor artists from Greece and abroad, invites you to visit the exhibition “Color in Water 13 | The Edge of the Horizon” and honor us with your presence at its opening reception on Thursday, June 18, from 19:00 to 22:00.
The exhibition takes place physically in Athens at Chili Art Gallery (13-15 Demofontos St., Thissio, Athens) and simultaneously online, in collaboration with ARTgrID.
The exhibition explores the horizon as a shifting boundary between reality and imagination, connecting the experience of place with contemporary notions of movement and expectation.
Among other observations, the curatorial text notes: “The horizon is one of the most enduring motifs in the history of painting, functioning as a point of reference between the visible and the imaginary. Yet the boundary of the horizon is never fixed. It shifts according to the observer’s position, atmospheric conditions, and the moment in time. The clarity of the atmosphere and the intensity of light render the horizon at times distinct and at other times almost immaterial, especially in seascapes where sky and water tend to merge. The boundary thus becomes a zone of transition, where the categories of above and below, near and far, are called into question. At the same time, on a social level, the notion of boundaries is constantly being redefined. Population movements, tourism mobility, and the continuous flow of images and information alter our perception of space and distance. The horizon ceases to be a simple geographical point and becomes a symbol of expectation, escape, or even limitation. Watercolor, with its ability to render subtle tonal transitions, is particularly suited to approaching this unstable boundary, where the image balances between representation and abstraction.“
Visitors will encounter paintings created with water-based media on paper, including watercolor, water-soluble inks, watercolor pencils, pigments, natural water-soluble colorants, and related techniques.
The exhibition features works by the visual artists: Demosthenis Polymeris, Christine Cilli, Nastazia Georgiadou, Vibeke Espholm, Ioannis Stamoulis, Anastasia Glantzouni, Konstantinos Nikolaidis, Charalampos Zacharopoulos, Xanthi Toutountzoglou, Andromeda-Anastasia Sarikosta, Yiola Pitta, Spyros Beis, Eleftherios Kefalas, Vasiliki Xanthopoulou, and Saronis Vatikioti Gatsou.
A bilingual commemorative exhibition catalogue-book (Greek and English) has been published for the exhibition and is available free of charge to all visitors.
Opening Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 11:00-18:00, Thursday 12:00-19:00, Saturday 11:00-15:00. Closed Monday and Sunday.
The exhibition runs from Thursday, June 18 to Saturday, June 27, 2026.
