Sotiris Dandanas was born in Drama and studied in Thessaloniki. He continued his studies in Tübingen, Germany, where he currently lives and works at the university. Calligraphy entered his life through a reference in a book. He has designed covers for academic books and completed calligraphic works that decorate the university’s libraries. His relationship with calligraphy is a love affair between art, technique, and history, creating different dimensions of understanding the world through simplicity and heritage. He enjoys experimenting with materials and the natural quality of the medium, crafting his own tools—from paper and ink to the pen itself—based on historical references. His aim is often to bring cultures together, drawing influence from European calligraphy, Greek palaeography, and Eastern scripts and techniques.
