Monday, August 18, 2025 – The community of the initiative Ink on Paper, which promotes visual artists whose main means of expression are ink and paper, welcomes its new member, Nefeli Marmataki.
Nefeli Marmataki is a painter and illustrator. She was born in 1999 in Chania and studied at the School of Fine Arts in Ioannina. She has illustrated children’s fairy tales and poetry collections, while she lives and works in Chania as a graphic designer. At the same time, she has participated in comics and print festivals in Athens and Crete, presenting her distinctive personal style. The main element of her painting is the exploration of childhood through abstraction and the blending of different expressive media.
In her artist’s statement, she notes: «The style of my works is influenced by children’s drawings as well as by my personal experimentation. I choose this style because the childishness of the works is at the same time sensitive and wild, simple in design but also unpredictable, making this journey both a process of exploration and play—of how far I can explore the limits of spontaneity and artistic instinct. Ink as a material suits me because it is unpredictable, it reveals a sensitivity and provides freedom of expression, where the result is determined both by the material itself and by me».
