Tuesday, October 8, 2024 – The community of the initiative Ink On Paper, which highlights visual artists whose primary media of expression are ink and paper, announces the participation of Chryssa Tsovili.

Chryssa Tsovili was born in 1977 in Athens. In 2002, she graduated with distinction from the School of Fine Arts in Thessaloniki, specializing in painting, and in 2005 she completed her postgraduate studies in Brussels at the School of Fine Arts “La Cambre.” During her studies in Brussels, she attended workshops in dance direction (“Physical Dance”) and interactive stage design technology (“Digital Stage”). She has participated in exhibitions in Athens, Brussels, and Paris. She has also collaborated with music composers, dance groups, and actors on video-art live projections for concerts and performances presented at festivals in Greece, Italy, and Spain.

In her artistic statement, she notes about her work: “In my works, I am interested in depicting otherworldly characters with mythological presence. I place them in fairy-tale-like yet symbolic worlds—places of a transcendent view of reality that can confront the conflict and existential absurdity between contemporary historical reality and the inner worlds of human existence. The aesthetic of my work stems from the attempt to explore the relationship between the history of Art and the imaginary topographies of emotion and the existential struggle of human beings for meaning. Within this framework, the painting technique leans toward a field of critique directed at its subject matter and the historicity of aesthetic approaches.
