George Zarkadas was born in Montreal and studied Biochemistry, Fine Arts, and Film at leading universities in Canada. Immediately after graduation, he directed TV series and documentaries in Canada and Asia. His works were awarded by the NFB (National Film Board of Canada) and the NSI (National Screen Institute) of Canada. In Greece, he was awarded for the short film “The Waves” at the Drama Festival and later at the Figuera de Foz Festival in Portugal. He also painted and exhibited his paintings in well-known galleries in Vancouver, including the Vancouver Art Gallery. In 2002, he moved from Vancouver to Athens and participated in film productions in Europe, the Middle East, Hong Kong, and India. In 2004, he worked for the Athens Olympic Games for the international AOB organization, directing the closing ceremony’s highlight summary. Later, he directed for ERT the show “Pandora’s Box,” and filming about migrants inspired his large-scale painting “Afghans.” In the years that followed, George Zarkadas continued directing, photographing, painting, and exhibiting his work inspired mainly by his own photographic material. He now presents the installation “Leventes” at Chili Gallery.
