Niki Roubani is a visual artist and activist in the Women’s Movement, serving as the President of the Hellenic Network of Women of Europe. She studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts and the Central School of Art and Design in London, earning a BA Honours and Diploma in 1978. In 1975, as a student in England, she became involved in Human Rights issues, serving as General Secretary of the student association Ergasia. From 1986 to 2020, she worked in Public Education as an Art Teacher. In this field, she found an alternative way to teach about Human Rights, equality issues, and violence prevention through Art.Since 1997, she has collaborated with international organizations and official institutions as the elected president of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Network of Women of Europe, focusing on equality, the prevention and combat of violence, and human trafficking. The HNWE operates an SOS helpline for abused women and a shelter to support victims.Her artistic work can be found at www.nikiroubanimystudio.com. She has organized performances and has held 18 solo exhibitions in Greece, the USA, Cyprus, and Belgium, while also participating in numerous group exhibitions in Greece, Britain, Canada, and the Netherlands. She is a member of the Association of Art Teachers, and her publications appear in 28 issues of the journal Art Education, in the book Migrants in Greece by Ellinika Grammata, in educational materials of the Training Institute of the Ministry of Interior, and in the handbook and DVD Bridges of Friendship, Lesvos-Dikeli (2005), focusing on education for Conflict Management.
