Open Call for visual artists to participate in the international exhibition titled “Borderline: Between Light and Shadow,” which explores the contrasting and liminal relationships between people, concepts, and things shaping contemporary life. This call is issued by Art Curator Paris Kapralos. The official languages of the exhibition—which will take place in Athens—are Greek and English. A commemorative catalog in digital format will be published, and the exhibition will also be available online internationally via the ARTgrID platform for one month in both languages.

Theme and types of works. The exhibition welcomes submissions of paintings, prints, photographs, collages, and digital art.

The submitted artworks may engage with the theme in any way the artist deems appropriate.

Conceptual Framework. The concept of the borderline, as a space between light and shadow, offers a rich field of art exploration. In art, light and darkness are not merely physical phenomena but symbolic entities, referencing contrasts such as life and death, presence and absence. They often serve as techniques in works, intentionally or unintentionally focusing on conflict and balance. Conceptually, liminality is linked to Martin Heidegger’s philosophy, particularly in “Being and Time,” where the concept of Dasein experiences the moment as a span between the past and the future. Similarly, Gilles Deleuze, in “The Logic of Sense,” focuses on the borderline as a field of creation, emphasizing the dynamics of change. Art exhibition at the borderline between light and shadow propose a dialogue that transcends visual experience, leading to profound introspection about human existence and its continuous transitions.
