Art curator Paris Kapralos<\/a><\/strong>, in collaboration with watercolorists from Greece and abroad, invites you to visit the exhibition “Color in Water 12 | Autumn: Earth Tones<\/strong>” and attend its opening on Thursday, October 16, from 19:00 to 22:00<\/strong>.<\/p>

The exhibition takes place physically at Chili Art Gallery<\/a><\/strong> (13\u201315 Dimofontos St., Thissio, Athens) and is also available online, in collaboration with ARTgrID.<\/p>

This exhibition\u2014the 12th installment of the “Color in Water” series\u2014explores the relationship between humans and landscape from various perspectives and aims to highlight contemporary watercolor painting in Greece.<\/p>

From the curatorial note:
“Autumn in watercolor is not merely a matter of color but a dialogue between nature and light, matter and time. Historical awareness and technical mastery of earthy and seasonal tones allow the artist to capture not only the appearance of autumn but also the deeper psychology of transition. Earthy and autumnal tones in watercolor have long been a source of inspiration, combining the feeling of change with the tactile texture of nature.<\/em><\/p>

Historically, artists such as William Turner and John Constable highlighted the autonomy of the medium, with earth tones\u2014Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber\u2014forming the foundation for seasonal atmosphere. In the autumn palette, warm browns and reds (Venetian Red, Burnt Sienna) converse with cool grey-blue skies (Payne\u2019s Grey, Indigo) and soft violet shadows (Cobalt Violet, Ultramarine Violet), creating a unique chromatic intensity unmatched by any other season.<\/p>

In both Eastern traditions (Chinese and Japanese watercolor) and Western approaches\u2014especially after Impressionism\u2014earthy tones have been used in both minimalist and expressive ways. Today, contemporary watercolor artists continue to be fascinated by these hues, whether using them in mixed-media works or in restrained, minimalist compositions. Autumn remains a theme with deep emotional and artistic resonance\u2014even in the digital age.”<\/p>

The exhibition features paintings made with watermedia on paper (including watercolor, water-soluble inks, watercolor pencils, pigment powders, and natural water-based dyes).<\/p>

Participating artists include: Vibeke Espholm, Nastazia Georgiadou, Foti Kllogjeri, Gianna Derri, Ioannis Stamoulis, Anastasia Riga, Iliana Kolovou, Athina Danavara, Giannis Zagorianakos, Vassia Kalogerakou, Yola Pitta, Maria Kalliadou, Olga Barmazi, Dimitris Stenos, Manolis Kastanos, Kelly Psariotou<\/strong><\/p>

A bilingual (Greek and English) commemorative catalog-book has been published and is available free of charge to all visitors.<\/p>

Audience Awards:<\/strong>
An album with all exhibited works will be posted on the official Facebook page of the \u201cColor in Water\u201d series (visit it HERE<\/a><\/strong>) from the opening night through the end of the exhibition. The public can vote by liking their favorite works until 23:59 on the final day. The five artists whose works receive the most “Likes” will be announced and awarded non-monetary prizes by the organizers.<\/p>

About the “Color in Water” series:<\/strong>
This exhibition series is a personal project by art curator Paris Kapralos, launched in 2019 to promote and introduce the public to emerging Greek visual artists whose primary medium includes watercolor in all its variations. About the Curator:<\/strong>
Paris Kapralos is an Art Curator, Founder & Coordinator of ARC – Art Revisited Collective, and Co-publisher of Arts & Antiques CCR. Born in Athens in 1975, he resided in Northern Greece between 2008\u20132022. He studied Economics (Athens) and Graphic Arts (Staffordshire, UK). He has worked as a journalist specializing in Technology for economic newspapers and online news agencies (1999\u20132006) and later as an organizer of IT & Telecom conferences (2004\u20132011). He entered the field of Art professionally in 2011 and has since curated and organized over 200 exhibitions, art actions, projects, and participations in Greece and abroad.
