Eleni Tsotsorou is a visual artist whose main mediums of expression are painting and textile art. She was born in Athens in 1966, where she currently lives and works. Initially, she studied Physics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and Medical Physics at University College London (UCL), and worked as a trainee Medical Physicist at Agios Savvas Hospital. She later changed her professional path and turned to Art.<\/p>

She holds a degree from the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA), where she studied Painting under Rena Papaspyrou, Mosaic under Yiannis Valavanidis, and also attended Sculpture workshops in the studio of Thodoros Papagiannis. She has exhibited her work in 11 solo and more than 70 group exhibitions to date, in Greece, the USA, the United Kingdom, Brussels, Austria (Vienna), and Cyprus. Her works are part of public, private, and corporate collections.<\/p>

She holds a PhD from the Department of Fine Arts at ASFA, is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece (EETE), and has been teaching Art at Arsakeia Schools of Psychiko since 2003. She collaborates with the visual artists’ collective ARC – Art Revisited Collective.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>

In my work, whether representational or abstract, there are common elements in their conception and structure that, I believe, make them recognisable. In most pieces, structures are formed through the repetition and arrangement of small, similar elements, creating a sense of organic matter. The final result evokes dead-end forest labyrinths, feathers or leaves, or a wave about to crash onto the shore. Trees, feathers, or waves that invite you to hide within them and observe their movement, yet also conceal a latent threat of the unknown \u2014 due in part, but not solely, to the density of their organisation.<\/p>

The aim is to trap the gaze, guiding it to follow or explore the impasse that arises from this rhythmic, wave-like motion, which holds a hypnotic quality for the viewer who stands before the work. The process of creating these works is meditative \u2014 an emptying of the self that emerges from an inner need to transcend the mundane and everyday, which clips your wings and keeps you grounded.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
