Thursday, 3rd February 2022 – Curator Paris Kapralos proposes to the art-loving audience of Thessaloniki six emerging Greek artists in the exhibition titled “Intersections,” which will be hosted at Myrσ Gallery for a week from 26th February to 5th March. The exhibition is organized by ARC – Art Revisited Collective and digitally supported by ARTgrID.
The exhibition includes works by the visual artists: Nikos Pantazis, Anna Gkioti, Foti Kllogjeri, Maria Genitsariou, Sotiria Alevizou, Eleni Tsotsorou.
In the exhibition’s documentation text, the curator notes: “Visual artists, in general, redefine the world and offer us new readings of reflection and questions from distinct perspectives detached from typical reality, belonging to the topology of the imaginary. They use today’s philosophy as a tool, along with the freedom of the collective unconscious without the constraints of the average human being. Assurances, limitations, and directions originating from the collective firmament unconsciously inscribe the guiding lines of our lives in our personal realm. The exhibition’s works incorporate philosophical contemplations, social relationships, and existential assurances that concern us all, expressed simultaneously through both material and immaterial means. The works metamorphose into creatures of the mind as the artists explore the innovative use of materials, simultaneously moving towards a new conceptualization of what is depicted through a high-level gestural art.“
Eleni Tsotsorou is a visual artist primarily expressing herself through painting. She was born in Athens in 1966. After studying Physics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Radiophysics at UCL in London, she decided to change her professional path. She studied Painting under Rena Papaspyrou, Mosaic under Giannis Valavanidis, and Sculpture under Theodoros Papagiannis at the Athens School of Fine Arts, from where she graduated in 2000. She lives and works in Athens and has presented 9 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 30 group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. Since 2003, she has been teaching art at the Middle Education level at Arsakeia Schools Psychiko. She has been a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece (EEΤΕ) since 2001. She collaborates with ARC – Art Revisited Collective since September 2020. She has exhibited her work in exhibitions in Greece and systematically abroad through collaborations (Switzerland, Austria, USA), and recently her work was selected by the Jury of the London Art Biennale 2021. Her works belong to public, private, and corporate collections within and outside Greece.
Sotiria Alevizou is a visual artist primarily focused on painting. She was born in 1968 in Chalcis, where she lives and works. She apprenticed at the Art Workshop of Chalcis with D. Mytaras, studying painting with Giannis Adamakos, Angelos Antonopoulos, Art History with Vasiliki Sarilaki, and Pantelis Tsavalos. From 1993 to 1996, she studied painting under Edward Sakagian, Byzantine Iconography with Giannis Karouzos, Kostas Markopoulos, Christos Liondas, and Art Theory with Nikos Zias, Ioannis Karatjoglou at the School of Fine Arts in Piraeus. From 2003 to 2006, she pursued Byzantine Iconography under Giorgos Kordis. She also attended Drawing lessons with Eleni Zouni and Watercolor with Rubin Saralakou. Her works are held in private collections. She collaborates with the collective of visual artists ARC – Art Revisited Collective since July 2021.
Maria Genitsariou is a visual artist primarily expressing herself through calligraphy. She was born in Piraeus in 1966 and studied Graphic Arts at the Vakalo School. She studied painting and illustration in the workshop of Antonis Apergis at the Petra schools. She works at the Historical Archive of the Bank of Greece. Since 1993, she has been involved with Greek calligraphy. Recognizing that the fundamental element for completing her art works was the form of the texts, and given the lack of systematic education in the field in Greece, she studied Greek Palaeography at the Palaeography Department of the National Bank’s Cultural Foundation under the guidance of Agamemnon Tselika. She searches for manuscripts and sources both within and outside Greece. Using writing tools from the past and present, she either directly uses or adapts these scripts, transforming them into works of art, with a significant number of exhibitions in her portfolio. Simultaneously, she teaches calligraphy in seminars. Her works are present in private collections and collections of international institutions in Greece and abroad (permanently exhibited at the Calligraphy Centre in Vienna, Austria, and at the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople). Believing that calligraphy offers countless contemporary applications and simultaneously serves as an essential tool for self-exploration, she participates in promotion programs in Greece and abroad. She collaborates with the collective of visual artists ARC – Art Revisited Collective since June 2021.
Anna Gkioti is a painter and illustrator. She was born in Thessaloniki in 1977, studied Law at the Democritus University of Thrace, and pursued postgraduate studies in Public Law. She works as a lawyer in Thessaloniki, where she maintains her office. Her involvement in Art has been a parallel activity since 2008, during which she developed an exhibition activity with interesting reviews. She has designed CD covers for X Music Productions, illustrated the initial letters for the fairytale “The Fairy Singer” by Dimitris Philokostas, published by Grammata, and created the cover for the collection of short stories “Dream Clock” by Vasilis Karadai, published by Nefeli. Anna Gkioti is a founding member of ARC – Art Revisited Collective since March 2018.
The painter Fotis Klogeris (Foti Kllogjeri) was born in Albania in 1973. He studied at the Higher School of Fine Arts in Tirana. Since 1996, he has been living and working in Thessaloniki. He has presented his work in 7 solo exhibitions in Athens and Thessaloniki and has participated in more than 50 exhibitions worldwide. His works belong to private collections internationally, appear in catalogs, and are exhibited in private and public spaces. Fotis Klogeris represents Greece (Country Leader) as a painter in the International Watercolor Society (IWS), he is the Head of the Albanian Visual Arts Delegation participating in the Fabriano Symposium annually since 2017, and a founding member of ARC – Art Revisited Collective. He has also served as Vice President of the Association of Visual Artists of Northern Greece (SKETVE 2019-2021).
Nikos Pantazis is an architect and painter. He was born in 1970 and grew up in Thessaloniki but lives and works in Larissa, where he runs an architecture and construction company. He studied Architecture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and his simultaneous engagement with Art is an integral part of his life, combining it with science. He apprenticed under the painter Kostas Charalampidis, specializing in the Trompe-l’oeil technique. He has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions, and his works can be found in private collections in Greece and abroad. He collaborates with the collective of visual artists ARC – Art Revisited Collective since 2019.
